Southeast Texas, with its many waterways, wooded areas, and marshy flatlands, offers a wide variety of natural landscapes. Some of these regions are perfect for off-road riding, and you’ll find many areas where you can take your dirt bike for an afternoon or a whole weekend to go mudding and exploring along pristine creeks and through verdant forests. Here are a couple of great dirt bike tracks that aren’t too far from the Golden Triangle that you should check out this summer.

Sam Houston National Forest (near New Waverly, TX)

The expansive Sam Houston National Forest is an outdoor wonderland for Texans in and around Houston. It’s only a two-hour drive northwest from Beaumont. In the forest, you’ll find three different multi-use trails offering you 67 miles of dirt-bike riding thrills: East Side, West Side, and Northwest. The trails cross many creeks and take you through both loamy sand and muddy terrain.

General Sam's ATV and Off Road Park (near Huntsville, TX)

Going slightly further northwest on I-45 N from the National Forest, you’ll land at this popular ATV and off-road riding park that is perfect for a dirt bike ride. The park features over 700 acres in the Piney Woods, filled with mud holes, sand pits, and spring-fed creeks. You’ll be able to traverse over 60 miles of off-road riding trails on your dirt bike. Day passes are available, as are weekend passes and campground facilities if you want to extend your adventure.

Sabine ATV Park (near Burkeville, TX)

Just 90 miles to the northwest next to the Louisiana border is where you’ll find this expansive, 3,000-acre park that’s dedicated to off-road riding, including dirt bikes (don’t let the name dissuade you!). Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, you’ll find a trail among the 60 miles of trails that this park offers. Trails feature creek crossings fed from the nearby Sabine River, gentle hills and slopes, and plenty of mud. Kids under 12 get in free, so you can bring the whole family for a day pass or a weekend adventure.

Rio Bravo Motocross Park (Houston, TX)

If you feel like heading into the city and you’ve got a competitive streak, then you’ll probably love this MX park on the northern edge of Houston. The park is open to day passes on the weekends between 10 AM and 4 PM (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and Tuesdays from 2 PM to 9 PM.
