Basic steps to follow before riding your motorcycle in cold weather
1.) Make sure to check the air pressure in your tires
- You constantly want to be monitoring your tires air pressure, but let’s be real not a lot of us ride our bikes daily. Well when it gets cold, the air pressure in your tires will automatically drop and could possibly cause you to have an accident. So always keep an eye on your tires air pressure.
- You should always have an idea of where your engine fluids are no matter the weather! Check your brake caliper fluids and make sure they’re topped off. If your bike has been sitting for a while, it would be a good idea to put some fresh gasoline in it. Keeping the same old, dirty gas could cause your bike to spit and sputter. If you aren’t sure on how to check or replace fluids, call your local Powersports dealership and they’ll hook you up.
- Always wear proper protective gear when you’re riding, especially a helmet! I always think the more gear, the better. It could save your life.
- It’s a rule of thumb for Motocrosser’s to call the track before leaving the house and making sure they’re open before driving all that way to get there and suddenly find out that they are closed. I would say the same goes for street riders. I doubt strongly that any of them would want to be sitting in freezing weather while traffic’s at a standstill. So do a little investigating next time before leaving the house and avoid any mishaps.
